Advice Nurse Triage

If you need to reach us outside of normal business hours, our on-call advice service provides phone advice or urgent care referrals. When your child needs medical help after hours, the nurse advisor will help you decide if your child needs home care, if he or she needs to be seen by a physician that night, or if he or she can be seen the next day. One of our pediatricians is always available for emergency care when the office is closed. Please call our office phone numbers if you need urgent medical advice. Phone assistance is available 24 hours a day.

In a life-threatening emergency, you should go immediately to the nearest emergency room or call 911.

After-Hours Virtual Care

While your primary care office should be your first choice for in-person or virtual care, After-Hours Virtual Care is a convenient way to speak with a Stanford Medicine Children’s Health pediatrician outside of normal business hours. Our virtual visits are the quickest and most secure way to see a Stanford pediatrician. With After-Hours Virtual Care, you can schedule same-day and weekend appointments and receive the highest-quality medical advice without waiting for a next-day appointment.

Our vaccine philosophy

Our practice believes that all children should receive the recommended vaccines according to the guidelines provided by the AAP and the CDC. Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing diseases and health complications in children and young adults. Regular vaccinations help children ward off infections and they are administered as one of the safest and best methods of disease prevention. Immunizations

We follow the immunization guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Detailed information sheets are published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Recommended Immunization Schedule

• 0-6 Years -Schedule for children aged 0 Through 6 Years.
• 7-18 Years-Schedule for children aged 7 Through 18 Years.
• Catch-up Schedule for children aged 4 months through 18 years who start late or who are more than 1 month behind.

Product recalls

Car seat recommendations

As a parent, it is your job to protect your child when riding in a vehicle. Using car seats properly helps keep children safe. But with so many different types of car seats on the market, understanding how to use them correctly can be overwhelming for parents. What is a pediatrician?

A pediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the care of children. Pediatricians have undergone special training in the health and illnesses of infants, teens and young adults, and most pediatricians are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics after passing a comprehensive exam.

Pediatricians provide preventive health care for children in good health and medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill. They also provide parents with support and advice with issues such as growth and development, safety and prevention, nutrition, and emotional wellness to foster a lifetime of good health.

Can I meet my pediatrician before my baby is born?

Yes, we strongly encourage expecting parents to visit our office for a prenatal appointment. This is a great way to get acquainted with our office and our doctors. How often should my child see the pediatrician?

Your child should see the pediatrician for any illnesses. It is also important to schedule well-child exams regularly, beginning in infancy. Also called well-care visits, or checkups, these routine examinations provide the best opportunity for the doctor to observe the progress of your child's physical and mental growth and development; to counsel and teach parents; to detect problems through screening tests; to provide immunizations and to get to know one another. Well-care visits are strongly recommended as part of preventive pediatric care.

Well-child visits are also a good time for parents to raise questions and concerns about a child's development, behavior, nutrition, safety and overall well-being.
